Today we jump back in time (relative to the two previous snippets). This snippet is from the first chapter of Melker’s novella were Melker is meeting his new landlord for the second time. Before this snippet, Melker mentions that his new landlord has some odd titles in his bookcase. Like ‘Do it yourself; Amputation’, ‘Witch hunts across the ages’ and ‘Conspiracy theories’.
I poked Mr. Kross’ glove-clad hand with my foot, I still didn’t get a reaction.
A chill rushed down my spine, was he dead? I squatted down next to the arm and leaned down to glance under the bed. I could see a shoulder, a leg and Mr. Kross’ mop of blue-greyish hair, an odd natural color for a human. The arm hadn’t been amputated. I let go of a deep breath and placed two of my fingers on his arm, it felt cold.
Nervously licking my lips I moved my fingers across his skin, down towards his wrist, to check for a pulse. It’s a crummy way to do it, but the only way available to me if I didn’t pull him out from under the bed.
I didn’t get a chance to put my fingers beneath the edge of his black leather glove before I heard a low rumble and the arm disappeared under the bed. “Mr. Kross?”
Interesting! Sounds like this guy might have been trying out some of the things from his strange books.
Well, he’s tried out one of them when he was younger. Before he had the book. The second he lives with and the third he studies. Hehe XD
So, he’s alive, right?
Yep, more or less.
He’s something. We havent found out much yet but Rin-Rin is doing a great job.
Thank you. 🙂
I can imagine his shock at finding a body — and then having it move. Lol. Nobody likes to find a body — and what is it doing under the bed? Curious.
“The body” is hiding from himself. Kind of.
Well THAT’S certainly different! An intriguing snippet…
Thank you! 🙂
What an intriguing scene! Like the hints of paranormal and other weirdness.
Great that you see it! (Because it’s there) but the MC doesn’t so it’s good that readers can still pick up on it. 🙂 Thank you!
Well, sounds like he’s alive. I wonder what happened to him. An intriguing snippet!
Yep, he is. Thank you! :3
I love the way the narrator comes across the gloved hand, which for a chilling second makes us think it’s disembodied. Nice feint before the reader learns the body is intact.
🙂 Thank you!
Love the suspense. Great snippet. Really drew me in. I really want to know what happens next.
Great! Thank you! It’s probably going to be a bit anticlimactic but it’s only the beginning. XD;
Good building of tension.
Thank you! 🙂
What a spooky and intriguing snippet! Love the one book title you mentioned – Do it yourself amputation. lol. I can’t even imagine reading such an awful thing. Great work!
Thank you! Hehe, yeah, it’s some foreshadowing for the people that will read the companion novellas of some of the other characters.
I really don’t think that was a voluntary retreat under the bed. Might be a good time to get farther away from the grabby rumbly thing.
Well, he did crawl under there without thinking so you’re right, he didn’t really do it voluntarily 😀
Mr. Kross is in the middle of some odd, dangerous doings.
Mr. Kross’ backstory is full of odd and dangerous things. As he’s currently raising a 6 year old daughter his life has calmed down drastically. XD …deciding to build a small mansion and let a bunch of different hard-on-their-luck youngsters come and live there might not have been one of his greatest ideas though.
Ooh! Fun and Scary!
🙂
Oookay, that’s creepy… But I want to know more!
Anticlimactic resolution coming next week. XD (Will be jumping a bit forward)
Intriguing snippet.
Thank you! 🙂
Well I certainlyhope the arm moved because he is alive! Now what was that rumbling? Very intriguing.
Yep, he’s alive. 🙂 Indeed, it was a low rumbling. 😛
Definitely intrigued. The arm moved… It was attached to the body, right?
Yep, it’s attached. XD
